Privacy without the fine print
This is exactly what happens to your data:
- Your transactions are stored encrypted on your device.
- There is no telemetry or analytics, and your financial data is not uploaded to any server.
- Plugins and P2P sync stay off until you turn them on.

Licence activation (once): your key, your email and a random installation id. It is verified offline afterwards. - Only if you turn on P2P
If you enable P2P sync: connection metadata (for example your IP) to a signalling server; the content is encrypted between your devices.
Honesty: in the web version the encryption secret lives in browser storage, so turn on the vault passphrase if the device is not only yours. Security has had an internal audit; there is no independent audit yet. Read the security page

Does PrivyFinance connect to my bank?
No. You import the CSV your bank exports. This is by design: nobody holds credentials or access to your accounts.
What if I lose my device or forget the passphrase?
Nobody can recover your data for you, not even us. That is why the app asks you to make an encrypted backup and save the recovery code. Without a backup or the key, the data is unrecoverable.
What happens at 80 transactions?
You can keep viewing and exporting your data; adding more needs PRO.
Is there a subscription?
No. PRO and Family are one-time payments.
Does it work offline?
Yes. You only need a connection to activate the PRO licence, once.
Is it financial advice?
No. It is a tool to organise and understand your finances.
